Dear Sir or Madam:
The undersigned, in his capacity as General Manager of the public limited company called
EMPRESAS COPEC S.A., both domiciled in the Metropolitan Region of Santiago, El Golf
N°150, 17th floor, Las Condes commune, RUT N°90.690.000-9, duly authorized by the
Board of Directors, communicates to you the following essential information regarding the Company, its
businesses, their securities offered to the public or the offer thereof, pursuant to the provisions of the
Article 9 ° and paragraph 2 ° of article 10°, both of Law 18,045, and in the General Norm
N°30, of that Commission for the Financial Market:
By communication of Essential Fact of this date, our subsidiary Celulosa Arauco and
Constitución S.A. (“Arauco”) has reported, in relation to the fires that have occurred during
this year in the regions of Maule, Ñuble, Araucanía, Biobío and Los Ríos (the “Fires”), which are
updates the information previously delivered to the market, in the sense that in the area in which it is
Arauco has approximately 47,000 hectares of
productive forest plantations potentially affected.
The subsidiary adds in its communication that, considering the information currently available, the
wood that should be recoverable (based on past experiences) and the covers of the
applicable insurance, preliminarily estimated that the impact on Arauco’s financial statements
product of the Fires would be at this date of approximately USD 50 million.
