The undersigned, in his capacity as General Manager of the public limited company called Empresas Copec S.A., registered in the Securities Registry with N°0028, RUT N°90.690.000-9, both with address at El Golf N°150, 17th floor, commune of Las Condes, Metropolitan Region of Chile, duly authorized by the Board of Directors, communicates to you the following essential information regarding the Company, its businesses, its securities of public offer or the offer thereof, by virtue of the provisions of article 9 and paragraph 2 of article 10, both of Law 18,045, and in General Rule No. 30, of that Commission for the Financial Market:
The subsidiary Celulosa Arauco y Constitución S.A. (“Arauco”) has informed us that its Board of Directors, as of today, has given its agreement to the decision of its subsidiary ARAUCO INDUSTRIA DE MÉXICO, S.A. DE C.V., to carry out the construction of a new production line of MDF boards, to be developed in its industrial complex located in Zitácuaro, Michoacán, Mexico.
The project includes an estimated investment of US$235 million, which will be financed with its own resources, and will incorporate state-of-the-art operational, environmental and safety technology.
It is estimated that, once it starts operations, this project would add about 300,000 cubic meters of MDF production per year, of which 150,000 cubic meters would be melaminated, to respond to the growing demand of the furniture, construction and decoration industry in Mexico.
Arauco believes that this project will have positive effects on its future results, although at the moment these are not quantifiable.
