Dear Sir or Madam:
By virtue of the provisions of article 9 and article 10 second paragraph of the Securities Market Law, I communicate to you as essential information of Empresas CMPC S.A. (“the Company”) the following:
1. By means of an essential fact dated February 7, it was reported that as a result of the fires that had hitherto affected the south-central area of the country, the Company estimated that the total of its affected forest plantations would exceed 10,000 hectares.
2. Considering that since the date of this report the Company has had to fight 95 fires and that an average of 6 new fires have been generated daily in the last two weeks, it is estimated that the number of affected plantations of the Company will exceed 22,500 hectares, without it being possible to determine at this time the precise amount or the actual damage that they may have suffered, Given the complexity of carrying out the necessary technical inspections in the field, which can be done once the emergency has been overcome.
3. For reference, if the damage indicated is finally verified and there is no possibility of recovering the affected timber, the impact on CMPC’s financial statements would be approximately USD 56 million.
