Dear Sir or Madam:
The undersigned, on behalf of the closed corporation called Celulose
Arauco and Constitución S.A. (the “Company” or “Arauco”), both domiciled in
the Metropolitan Region, Avenida El Golf N* 150, 14th floor, commune of Las Condes,
company registered in the Securities Registry with N* 42, RUT N” 93.458.000-1, and
being duly authorized, communicates to you the following essential information
with respect to the Company and its business, pursuant to the provisions of Article 9%
and subsection 2? of article 10% both of Law N* 18,045, and in the Character Norm
General No 30 of the Commission for the Financial Market:
As of today, the Company’s Board of Directors has given its agreement to the
decision of its subsidiary ARAUCO INDUSTRIA DE MÉXICO, S.A. DE C.V., to bring
carry out the construction of a new production line of MDF boards, to be
developed in its industrial complex located in Zitácuaro, Michoacán, Mexico.
The aforementioned project includes an estimated investment of US$235 million, which will be
It will finance with its own resources, and will incorporate operational, environmental and
state-of-the-art security.
It is estimated that, once it starts operations, this project would allow to add
about 300,000 cubic meters of MDF production per year, of which 150,000

cubic meters would be melaminated, in order to respond to the growing demand for
the furniture, construction and decoration industry in Mexico.
Arauco believes that this project will have positive effects on future results
of the Company, notwithstanding that at the moment these effects are not
